Kenya Diplomatic ConnectionsKenya plays an active role within the international community. Since becoming a Republic in 1964 Kenya is now a member of various international bodies. The work diplomats do behind the scenes is critical and sometimes, thankless. Long hours negotiating international trade agreements, the mundane job of sorting an international student"s problems, crime, representing the country at a trade exhibition or seminar. The benefits are many. Meeting people from all walks of life, the dinner parties and the travel provide excellent job satisfaction, not forgetting the odd car parking discretion. Cost cutting in a lot of countries has led to the reduction in size of the "Diplomatic family". This will be a challenge to many countries and will result in a lot of team work and accountability as people begin to question the role of "our man" in Nairobi or London. ( Sorry, but most diplomats are male, but good news for Kenya in that the present High Commissioner in London is a lady Her Excellency High Commissioner Nancy Kirui.)
